Hello Bazz, welcome, doesn't appear to be any mention of your father on the Army Casualty lists, might be worth having a look at 56 Recce war diaries on this site and also the Reconnaissance journals. 56th Recce War Diary Reconnaissance Journal
Thank for that tony56. Had another look at dads service recordsit says at top of page. Place of casualty then infront of colchester hospital it says in the field. Hand written .at the side of that trooper then date 7:6:42. Then it says having been in hospital a period of 21days posted to recce. Dated 29: 6:42 posted 46recce 24:8:42. Hope this helps
See what you Mean tony56 had a look could not find dads name onlist of casualties. Just noticed no officers signature at side of admitted colchester hospital just 56 Bn recce corps ink stamp on his war records. But on leaving hospital officer signature? Any records on colchester hospital any where

Hi Put this into Google (in between the arrows) >>>>>>138741 site:https://www.thegazette.co.uk<<<<<<< MEF = Middle East Forces RAC = Royal Armoured Corps Not so sure about MCC but someone else will know it. Bazz, how about posting the forms? To be honest if you can't read it having seen them ................! Release forms were often signed by the CO.
Hi Gus. On dads release. Paper. Stamp says Lt col. Checked book only enemy in front. On appendix. Two it says LT -Col ?
Three buttons underneath the reply box, middle one is "Upload a file", hit that and select file from your PC, note there is a maximum size of 2MB.
Hi The London Gazette only posts Army Officers substansive promotions. He was therefore a Major 'Wartime Acting' Lt-Colonel in December 1945. He was promoted to substansive Lt-Colonel six months later. Gus
Bazz, it reads "A trustworthy & reliable man. An untiring worker who has given every satisfaction with his work for this unit. Is temperate & adaptable." Note also that the reconnaissance regiments were disbanded late 1945 and most soldiers absorbed into other units. 46 Recce were disbanded 12 November which is presumably why his last unit is No. 1 MCC. The only reference to this in an RAC context I can find is 'mounted close combat' but this sounds way too modern for WW2.
Hi Please bear in mind that the Lt-Colonel probably wrote tens and maybe even hundreds of these reports as their troops were demobbed on an ever increasing scale in 1945 and 1946. All of the reports that I have seen thus far, written by the unit COs have all been very complementary and all with the same or similar buzzwords. Gus
Thanks for all that info thats why i joined great to get feedback like this you guys have been doing this for years. Thank you again
