Pals Im after any information on the man below. This for a friend all details I know are below... David Davenport Walker DOB 1919 "Served in the Welsh Guards (photo below) and part of the BEF and Dunkirk Veteran. I am led to believe he received a significant medal on the retreat to Dunkirk but no idea what that might have been. Unfortunately I don't know his regimental number.Dave Married Peggy Rosina Francis Blandford in March 1956. He died in 1998, Peg died in 1994. II do believe he did get a MM. I'm told he carried his mates out of a mine field. At his funeral a guy wearing a Welsh Guards Beret introduced himself and said that Uncle Dave was the bravest man he knew as he carried him out of a mine field, so there must be some truth to the story." Thanks in Advance Simon
Hello, I found this whilst researching the family history for the above. I was just wondering who your friend is, are they a relative of the above or a friend of theirs? Also I was wondering what information they wanted to know and why? I do know quite a bit about the above. I don't believe he was awarded a MM however there are a couple of events during WW2 where I believe he may have behaved in a similar way without reward or the wrong person was awarded perhaps. If you wish to get back to me with regards to the above please do and I will try and clarify information if I am able to.
Nothing here when searching for ''walker'' ''welsh guards'' Recommendations for military honours and awards 1935-1990 - The National Archives Just checked the Regimental History & he's not listed in there either.
I would apply for a copy of his service records from Wellington Barracks. I couldn't find a mention of him winning a medal at the archives either.
