During WWII, four North African men enlist in the French army to liberate that country from Nazi oppression, and to fight French discrimination.
Quite an interesting movie given the subject matter. Not only is it from the perspective of the French, but its from the perspective of French-African Troops commonly referred to as WOGs who are highly discriminated against. Some are Black-Africans while most are of Arab descent. It shows the tension between race relations (much like Black vs White in the American Army) where white-French are given leave to go to their homes while the WOGs are not, despite doing the same sighting etc as the white-French. A sticking point is the sacrifice they make to liberate France (which at the same time plants the seeds of Freedom from France in their own countries of origin). I would have to check but apparently the WOGs were the first 'French' to liberate Alsace (I believe is the region they mention in the movie) after crossing a bridge some Americans are supposedly holding (no sign of the Americans in the movie). One thing that also stood out to me was that a few soldiers had French Helmets while the majority were wearing American Helmets. Not sure how accurate this is (I believe one soldier also had a Thompson SMG). All in all, I'd give this movie a 7.0 out of 10.
