    Afternoon everyone. I have been recommended that this is the place for help with research I have been conducting for many years. My father in-law was a Private in the signals section of the 1st Battalion Kings Own Scottish Borderers, 9th Brigade, 3rd Division that landed in Sword Beach on Dday. I am trying to find out which ship/ landing craft he would have crossed the channel aboard. This is one of the final missing pieces I have in his journey with the 1st KOSB. Many thanks in advance for any help or pointers. Cheers Rob.

    Hi Adam . I have indeed . We have visited every location from his landing near Hermanville right thought to where he was critically injured during Operation Goodwood near Sannerville in July. The LC is one of the final pieces. Thanks for the reply. Welcome any more info you have.

    My father's unit (F/318 92nd LAA) landed on Sword Beach at La Breche de Hermanville on D-Day with the 9th brigade flotilla, aboard two LCTs, fleet numbers 405 and 408. Many years ago, I found this landing table for Sword, which I have posted a few times on WW2 Talk. The 9th Brigade vessels are listed in sections 16, 17, 18 and 19 (Reserve Brigade) and it's possible your father's vessel is among them. Please note though, that LCTs were given fleet numbers for the invasion, which did not correspond with their original numbering. I don't know if that was the case for other vessels. Here is the landing table ...

    Hello Rob,
    There are several craft that he could have gone across on.

    Attached are the LTIN published with the Operational Orders, dated 22nd May 1944, for 1 KOSB.

    Regards

    Danny

  6. Great details Danny!

    Hull numbers for the LTINs with 1 KOSB Sigs personnel are as follows:

    369 = LCT(4) 788
    370 = LCT(4) 612
    372 = LCT(4) 539
    384 = LST(2) 304
    388 = LCI(L) 376
    389 = LCI(L) 387
    390 = LCI(L) 384

    No idea which coaster 3130/MTC could be though. It is not listed in the Force L orders (ONEAST/L), therefore was probably part of a later Convoy than Sailing Group 5 aka Convoy ETM1.
