Where abouts in the UK are you?

what sort of rifle are you after?

are you a reinactor or gun collector?

Are you aware of the responsiblilty of owning such a weopon? I remind you that although you may legaly own such a gun it is an arrestible offence to posses it in any public place without due cause.

Personaly im not worried about getting arested, but i am worried about getting shot by the tactical fire arms unit....this is a real possibility.

That said, if you give answers, i can help.

Hi I live on the Wirral, to be honest it was for my grandad. I have got his medals together for him so I thinking about getting him a hand gun/rifle what he may have used in WW2. But I think you are right about getting shot by the tactical fire arms unit if I give it to him in his sheltered accommodation. Thanks for the replys.

Do you know with which regiment did he served.....when etc

im sure we knew, we could come up with some excelent gift ideas that dont involve any risk of a public order incident:D

    What's your time-scale Vespa?
Really rather few occasions you can properly browse a wide selection of deacs, but the War & Peace show at Beltring is somewhere you can pick and choose from the tatty to the pristine, the common to the exceptionally rare, at slightly better than average prices. (Be prepared to be a tad stunned by some deac prices, and then a bit sad at some new spec stuff welded pretty solid).
Sadly, W&P has only just happened (July), so it's another 10 months before it goes off - most militaria shows will have deac stands though, places like stoneleigh & Malvern, but you have to get there early to find a decent choice of stock.

These blokes have seen me and a few friends right with reasonably priced ex-guns:

Cheers he was in DLI 1939 to 1945. To be honest it was just a last minute thought so there is no rush. I will have a look at the militaria shows web site today. Thanks again for your time.

I have a couple of deacs on display in my study, "when I say study I mean the spare room with a pc and some books in it ha!" anyway one afternoon the Virgin media guy came round to fix a broadband issue and then left, an hour or so later a couple of bobbys turned up and said they had a report of numerous machine guns in my possesion, which was actually a 1941 Bren gun and a 1918 Lee Enfield , both perfectly legal deacs

The police were fine about it, and ended up getting a history lesson about WW2 weapons and warfare into the bargain, they also said they are getting more and more reports from installation engineers plumbers etc who see any sort of firearm in the home and report it.

so as long as its legal and you are not waving it out the window etc, you should be ok

My dad served in Italy on Bren carriers so thats where a lot of my interest in WW2 weaponry comes from:)

A few years ago I turned up a bit early for an engineering job interview. Whilst waiting in the reception area I had a few minutes to study a Bren, a MG42 and a Martini Henry fixed to the wall.
During the interview we spent as much time talking about the weapons as the job available!
I ended up turning the job offer down but it was one of the strangest interviews ever.

Back in the day lol (98) you could buy Martini Henry's on ebay for a monkey. They stoped that sort of listing very quickly.

Mike L - I know that feeling, a chap at work some years ago, heard I had spent a year or two around weapons. Accosted - for that is the word for it, this chap started to show me photographs of his 'collection'. I explained that I had absolutely no interest in deactivated or any other weapon for that matter. Probably not going to be popular for this - I made it very clear that this chaps fascination was not within my comprehension. We all have views and should respect others views, my own is they should be taken out of circulation.

I am curious as to why you think they should be taken out of circulation?

I for one think it's fascinating to feel and hold a historic weapon. From my view it helps give people a better impression of the whole WW2 aspect when they have a piece from that period at first hand.

Just a personal opinion, I cannot see the fascination, often by people who have never had the responsibility of carrying one. No offence intended, but it remains my view.

Sounds fair enough :) I do believe you're right about the people who often are most fascinated by it are those who have never carried or fired a rifle.

I'm not one who falls into that group but why is this said like it's a problem?

Ryton Arms are my first port of call. They de-act their own and many other's weapons, they also know what is around with other dealers too.

I bought a Arms encyclopaedia in a second hand book shop a few years a go and in the middle there was a loose bit of paper with a drawing of a man and a load of guys and they were labelled Me and my weapons. I do hope this was the work of a child.

It would appear you have the qualifications to answer your own question - I shall refrain.
