I felt this may be pertinent to members here who have expectations of an expeditious mail out!!! I have taken this from another forum to which I have posted on this particular request. The chap who made the request has received this response from the records office recently: ""APPLICATION FOR HISTORICAL MEDALS FROM NEXT OF KIN [sic] "Thank you for your medal application. [sic] "Regrettably, due to manpower constraints, we will not be able to process your application in the timescales we would like. Your application [sic] has been allocated a case number and filed [my emphasis] against the reference number quoted at the head of this letter. As our manpower situation eases, your application [sic] will be brought forward for attention. At this point we will contact you accordingly. "I am very sorry for this disappointing response". "Yours etc." I hope this doesn't last long regards simon
I've been told by a dealer recently a family request for service details is running to about an 8 month wait. ttfn Matt
Very much closer to 10 months for WW2 Service Records, if my experience is the norm. Considering the number of injured soldiers trying to get back to normality, I would have thought that pushing paper through a photocopier would not be too taxing... Obviously wrong..............
Certainly with service records, a long wait is nothing out of the ordinary but occasionally someone gets a reply earlier than expected. The MOD do deal with more current matters as a matter of priority ... and the country is suffering from cutbacks. I've always said it'd be great to have a system like the Aussie one, but we ain't got the money.
