Hi All, Well, I have finally got around to sorting out a sensible display for my medal collection. I went for the metal Bisley filing cabinets. Picked up the one shown below from Ebay last week for a decent price and then have cut some 10mm deep foam insets, which have come out nicely. This evening I have filled the first five drawers with some of my groups and Victorian singles. It is good to get these out of their Jiffy bags and on display. It has been very exciting and quite a satisfying experience. It has made me tidy up the paperwork side of things too, all now digitally backed up and filed on Excel.
Hi Ron, Good point. I have my collection insured separately, but with the acknowledgement of my household provider. This was my dilemma, having my collection squirrelled away in the loft and never really seeing them, or displaying them in an active and accessible way.
Great stuff, post some picies of a couple of drawers open and filled so we can see what they look like.
Hi, i have mine in a coin&medal cabinet i bought for £40, about ten years ago, i get all my Casualtie & Pow groups card mounted off a friend of mine, they look neat and tidy. Mick
I really wanted a nice solid wood cabinet, probably as you described Mick, but they were expensive and would not fit in the available space. It is really good to have my groups and other bits right next to me when I write or research on line. Cheers Steve
Hi Steve, i was lucky really at the time. It was through a friend that i managed to get the cabinet off the dealer, It's great with my medals being on cards to slot in and out, i know everyone is different regarding medal on bars ,as they are in the box of issue, medals on old ribbon, but i feel i am giving the soldier's sailor's airmen, service women justice, by putting them on cards with their details and i think it make's them a lot tidier. Mick
Steve, i will try and get my son to take some pic's of the medals and the cabinet, i am not good at taking photo's then trying to transfer them to computer. Regards Mick
