Hi, I was told some years ago, that during the allied landings in Italy in 1943, special units were used to create confusion among German defences by playing “recordings” of battle noise. These units would land at coastal areas away from the main landing zones and set up loud speakers over which they would play those sounds associated with the landing and battle for beachheads. Apparently this was done in an attempt to confuse, and possibly divert German defences from the main landing beaches. Can anyone confirm if this is in fact true, and if so, where I might find some information on these units. Thanks John
