Does anyone recognise these parts?

  1. Hi,

I've just been given these parts, I have been told they came off my uncles Lancaster.
I havn't a clue what they are, could anyone here shed any light on them or point me in the right direction?

    Cheers

The AM form 78 is the Air Ministry movement card. These cards give the aircraft's movements while in service.

First one is a Mod Plate that would have been fixed to an assembly - long served and much modified assembly from the collection of Mod numbers stamped on it. Defo Lancaster as it has 683 in the Type area - but generic to every Lanc nothing really specific to tie it down to an air craft serial

The final as Andy says is AM Form 78 or Movement Card - shows a ROS (Repair on Site) 24 days after delivery to No.153 Sqn after FB (Flying, Battle) by civilian contractor party from Avro before the final loss due to FB.

  5. Ross,

thanks for that, so do you know, would the collection of MOD numbers refer to the parts used in the assembly?
More information that I didnt have, cheers!
I am piecing together bits of a long story.....
I've got the aircraft number, but I was hoping to tie these parts to the actual aircraft in some way......

    much appreciated.....

A Mod or Modification is an approved change to a build.

When an assembly or part or group of components was altered it was given a sequential number so xxx may have been add an extra link to the chain on the fuel filler cap on the starboard outer engine, XXX+1 was say drill out and replace a rivet on the navigator table, XXX+2 fit an mid under gun position, XXX+3 change heat treatment temperature of a flange on the undercarriage.

It was done so that an assembly could be compared to the big book of numbers to make sure that it was up to date with all necessary mods or identify what needed to be added to bring it up to latest Mod condition for use.

Nothing to identify a particular aircraft. All that could be said was date loss could not be before eg date of highest number Mod.
