Good for you, post it here when you've finished and tell us what grade you received.

    Handy search terms;

    Tiger II
    King Tiger
    Royal Tiger
    Konigstiger
    Koenigstiger
    Pzkpfw.VIb
    Sd.Kfz 182
    Panzer VIb
    Porsche Turret.
    Henschel Turret

As it is only 700 words I'd be interested if you could post it here when it's done too.
    Cheers,
    Adam.

I'd like to see it as well. Just one question, does your school/college accept Wiki as source material?

The point about wiki, apart from the information provided, is to check out the sources. This particular article leads you here which lists all the books that they consulted.

The trick to research is to follow the (cyber)paper trail.

And I think you mean "accepted" :)

The King Tiger? there were very few about. We captured in a wood in Belgium a whole enemy arms dump. Captured is the wrong word, we just found it. Everywhere there was the paraphernalia of war stacked up neatly in amongst the trees, and there stood a absolutely brand spanking new King Tiger. We had a look at it, but decided not to enter as we were only too aware of the thing being booby trapped.
They booby trapped their own officers and men.

The very mention of 'booby traps' would ensure my continued inspection of some nice 'safe' Dingo or somesuch. ;)

    Probably from a hole.
    With Binoculars.

Seems to have been the ultimate fate for so many VIb's, abandoned or destroyed by the crew...

Oddly enough Owen, The King Tiger was painted in a sandy colour. What we wondered at the time was the width of the tracks. Huge thing. We touched nothing there. If there was booby trapped? others could find that out...

It was near that place that we buried "Deep" our flamethrowers. They were the lifebelt type, with a circular tank on your back. They must still be there. None of us liked flamethrowers and they were not used much. for obvious reasons, if a bullet hit the tank? you are stood in the centre of a huge 50 foot diameter ball of flame.....Not nice.

I think i lean towards the somewhat rarer Porsche... was nice to see both on one site at tankfest last year.

Has to be Porsche turret, it's the smooth lines that does it.

I can recall the absolute enormity of the thing. the width of the tracks were much wider than previous tanks. I often wondered why it was painted in the sandy colour?

The one at Bovington just makes you realise what we were up against with the "Konigs Tiger" I bet that Bovy would love to have got hold of the Tiger in the woods in Belgium. I could also never understand why the enemy left such a wealth of munitions and armour. For us it was just another thing that happens, we come across these things and move on.

Bryan, the orders were from early 1943 that German vehicles should be painted in "Sand" with camouflage patterns in Brown and Green applied at the field at unit commander's discretion. Of course the coverage in the secondary colours would vary a lot. Vehicles came out of factory in plain Sand, later with camouflage schemes already applied.
