My mother in law, born and bred in Wiltshire, was sent to London in WW2 to teach in local schools there. She taught Home Economy. Cooking, Needlework, Hygiene etc. My wife recalls one child's comment while kneading dough, when making home made bread. "Dont arf make yer 'ands clean miss." Her husband spent his war in the RAF on safari in Kenya, followed by Egypt, repairing B26 Marauders, while she endured the Blitz and V weapons.
