    Hi fellas

Can anyone point me in the right direction of a list of the units evacuated from Dunkirk...especially 1 and 2 Inf Divs? Has this been discussed before?

    Hi Martyn,

Do you want them all or are you looking for something specific?

When you say Dunkirk do you mean Dunkirk or under Op Dynamo ie La Panne, Malo, Bray Dunes etc.

    Cheers

    Hi Andy

Sorry I wasn't specific enough. This is pretty new to me so please generalise...or is that too much info?

Too much info really. There are at least 40 different units within the division and probably around 50 to 60 different war diaries. However I can tell you though that on:

29th May eliments of the div were being evacuated from Bray Dunes with the help of the Divisional Field Park Company using their folding and assault boats. One pier was constructed by two RE units and some gunners.

30th May all B Echelons of the Infantry Bn's and Artillery Regiments were evacuated from the above pier at Bray Dunes.

31st May A second pier was constructed to help with the evacuation. 2 Bde less 1 Loyals were ordered to evacuate from the Mole at Dunkirk. Around 3,000 personel from 1 Div were still waiting to be evacuated.

1st June 2 Brigade was evacuated from the Mole. The remaining Div artillery was ordered to evacuate. Due to overwhelming numbers at the Mole most of the remaining artillery, 1 Loyals, 2 Cheshire, and most of 1 Guards Brigade went to Malo les Bains for evacuation. 3 Brigade went to the beach next to the Mole for evacuation and nearly all of 1 KSLI were evacuated that night.

2nd June The remainder of 1 Guards Brigade and 3 Brigade got away during the night.

Obviously there is a lot more detail (Unit diaries hold the best detail.) but that should give you a bit of an idea for the main players within 1 Div.

    Drew5233,

On the same subject, are there any lists of which ships carried which regiments/sections? 115 Field Regiment, less 240 Battery, were evacuated from the Mole on 29th May (source: War Diaries)

If the unit diary doesn't state it then it probably wasn't recorded. 48 Div CRA diary might mention it or have relevant papers.
