My Stepfather Flight Sergeant Edward Wake was in Singapore when it fell to the Japanese. With a friend he managed to get out of Singapore on the S.S. Empire Star, arriving at Batavia on 15th Feb 1942. They surrendered to the Japanese on March 27th 1942, and after a few months of captivity, the two friends were separated, one being transported (I think) to Japan; unfortunately his ship was torpedoed and he was drowned/killed. My stepfather was, I think, sent back to Singapore to be incarcerated in Changi, and later working on the Burma Railroad. I would very much like to know how to set about finding out exactly what camps he was in and where he was for the rest of the war, or if anyone recognises his name and could tell me of his story. Thankyou.
