Maybe a bit of interpretation please!

I have looked at the application forms for Glasgow and struggle with interpretaion 'next of kin'.

My father died in military service of natural causes in UK. more than 25 yrs ago. ALL of my family are deceased, I am the only surviving member, ie.his Son.

When I apply for my fathers records and declare I am his Son, ie. next of kin, would I still have to pay the fee?

There has not been any previous application for the military records.

    Thanks or any help

    Hi,

Yes IMHO you will have to pay for his papers. My understanding of the rules is that it is only a widow or widower who is excused payment.

    Good Luck

I will second Steve's advice. My Mum applied for her father's records back in 2007, she was officially nok, but still had to pay the fee.

Only the wife or husband can get records for free. Everyone else has to pay £30.

    Good luck

It says this on the website, couldn't be clearer .

The administration fee of £30 will be waived for requests from those who were the spouse or civil partner of the subject at the time of death (or parent if there was no spouse or civil partner).

Request records of deceased service personnel - GOV.UK
