Stirred by a comment by TD on another thread on the lack of passenger lists for troopships, the following is provided for information.
The link Special Files (scroll to bottom of page) contains many passenger lists (unfortunately not complete) for FEPOWs repatriated through Manila to US/Canada and Australia/NZ. I have not found any lists for the subsequent onward movement of British FEPOWs from the US/Canada/Australia to the UK. Passenger lists for the ships involved do exist but they do not contain Service personnel.
The only other list I know of is that for HMNZHS Maunganui which repatriated sick FEPOWs to Southampton and this is held at TNA - BT26/1219/243.

I was just replying to that other thread which may provide you with at least some of the information that you are after Tim. Try looking at
the ‘Directorate of Movements’ records at LAC and Héritage.

Do you have access to the HMNZHS Maunganui list by any chance? I have reason to believe my Uncle was repatriated on that ship.
    Thanks for any halp

Unfortunately not though I believe another Forum member has it (sorry can't remember who). There is a list on the Mansell Special files link but they are not currently available due to being re-sized. There is also a Passenger List for the HMNZHS Maunganui at Kew - I'll try and get you the file no.

Apologies for possible confusion on my part, but didn't you mention the Maunganui file number in your first post?

    Steve, (SDP)
I hunt out repatriation details from Manila. If you give me your Uncles full name and number/regiment/pow camp if available, I will see what shows up.

Mike. Good to hear from you. You may remember my Uncle George thread a few years ago.
    William George Pannell
155th Lanarkshire Yeomanry Field Regiment Royal Artillery.
Captured at Singapore, transported to Formosa on the England Maru and in a number of Camps including Kinkaseki Copper Mine.

I've got ongoing interest as you know. We concluded that he was one of the seriously ill who were held back on Formosa and then shipped out. I'm still trying to 'square the circle' because the few surviving relatives can't decide whether he arrived back in the U.K. at Liverpool or Southampton. It would obviously be great to see his name on a 'Passenger List' somewhere.

Steve. Yes, all becomes clear again now. How time flies since you sent me the crosses in 2015 as I was going to Taiwan.
Uncle George definitely was not on the HMNZHS Maunganui when she arrived in Southampton in January 1946, but since we last communicated I have found a file that shows him as one who disembarked in Wellington from Maunganui. I will email the page of this file to you.
I know that many who arrived Wellington for recuperation eventually sailed home on the Aquitania, but there is no proof yet to emerge.
Did you ever see his service records to give a date of 'Taken on Strength' back in UK, as this may identify shipping to arrive on that date.

Thanks Mike. Email received. Another little Eureka moment. So, in essence (please correct me if I'm wrong):
He sailed from Formosa to New Zealand on the Maunganui (or did he go from Formosa elsewhere first?)...and it's the Maunganui to Wellington List that you have emailed me.
Then, at some point, he sailed from New Zealand back to the UK on the Aquitania. The Aquitania was certainly mentioned in family conversations many years ago but I'm not sure of the context.
I've never applied for his Service Records as I'm not NOK.

    Steve,
Yes, Formosa to Wellington, New Zealand on the Hospital Ship Maunganui.
His homeward journey MIGHT have been on the Aquitania, but it could equally have been on others. There is no proof YET.
The file I emailed Is the Maunganui list of disembarkation at Wellington.
