At the risk of telling you about an event that you already know/knew about..

The Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey will be officially opened on Thursday 8 November at 11.00am. The Field of Remembrance pays tribute to all the brave Service men and women who have served in our Armed Forces since World War I.

I'm meeting there tomorrow with Sgt Charles Ward, my Dad's friend and comrade, who served with 2 London Irish Rifles from Oct 18th 1939 to May 1943, and thence with SOE (ciphers) in Algeria and Italy until March 1946.

If anyone else is attending tomorrow, we'll be standing near to the London Regiment plot from 1030 onwards - 1700 men from the LIR being commemorated there from the two World Wars...

    best,

Strictly Poppies | Come Dancing Stars Perform in Swindon | SwindonWeb
Silence fell in Swindon today to remember the brave Servicemen and women who have fought and died in the Afghanistan conflict.

To mark the occasion at the opening of the Remembrance Field at Lydiard Park, the Military Wives Choir from the Defence Academy in Shrivenham sang ‘Together We’re Stronger’ accompanied by a moving performance from Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton Du Beke and Kristina Rihanoff.

In addition to the Field, 60,000 poppies were also planted with messages of support, laid out in a giant 11.11.11 formation next to Lydiard House to denote the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month.
