I am seeking any information concerning my father in laws father, who he never knew.

Patrick joined 107 sqn in May 44 and was crewed with F/O Basil Lambert according to information received Patrick flew a number of missions from RAF Lasham and was lost on a low level night operation on the night of the 4th or5th July, a last radio message is believed to report an engine fire climbing to bale out, both crew were killed in the crash and are buried in NW France,

Any further information or pictures of 107 sqn crew would make a senior citizen very proud

    Thank you

Thank you we made contact, very helpful.
The link states abandoned after an engine fire !
I thought the mosquito was one of the most difficult aircraft to abandon, especially with an engine failure

This is what the manual says......they make it sound easy (but I’m not a pilot, also that door looks pretty “small” with a parachute on)

Also, right below its says “aircraft MAY be successfully ditched”........”but WHENEVER POSSIBLE ABANDON BY PARACHUTE”......so not sure if they are that confident in “MAY be successfully ditched”........(but I’m not a pilot....so I’ll leave it to Pilot’s to decide if this is easy, or NOT)

You really should send off for his service records from the MOD forms here Request records of deceased service personnel

Not quite sure about the speculation of them getting out, your initial post stated they were 'low flying' so I guess they had zero time to bale out irrespective of the size of the emergency door, and even if they did get out then they probably didnt have enough time to open and deploy chutes

This is your other thread might be an idea to keep them together save forum members doubling up on info Assistance in tracing father in laws, aircrew father and uncle

As TD states send off for the service records Get a copy of military service records and all you require is the cert from CWGC to confirm his death

The record has been applied for,and signed by NOK
Could an administrator please link the threads from January I m unsure as to how, that would avoid any duplication

hello Adrian you didnt require the next of kin signing anyone can apply

Apply for the records of someone who's deceased
You can apply for a copy of someone else’s service records if any of the following apply:

    • you’re their immediate next of kin, for example their spouse or parent
    • you’ve got consent from their immediate next of kin
    • you have a general research interest - you’ll only have access to limited information, unless they died more than 25 years ago
You need to know the person’s full name, date of birth and service number.( you dont require the service number but it is helpful)
