This is the forum for everything Canadian. It is surprising how many of these models survive and very few of the British Bedford QL model.

Hi guys I have found some markings on my f60s truck today that have proved my point about it being used in the bus service after service and the gold and black writing that says UNITED I can't find any original numbers where they should be but I have reason to believe there was only 6 of these vehicles used by United automobiles so if anyone has any pictures or information or even if you know anyone who might be able to help that would help the restoration a lot Thankyou

Hi I bought an ford Canada f60s laat1 dated May 29th 1944 but I can't find any regiment markings only ones that look to be newly painted so I don't know whether they have been made up or copied from the actual vehicle but the only regiment number I could find was 174 which I believe would have been the 174th Royal artillery corps for the Canadians but I can't really find much history on them so if anyone could help me that would be great thanks, pictures to follow soon

    Arthur,

These things are seldom straightforward. Number 174 on a blue and red square was one of a block of numbers used by Army Groups Royal Artillery. These were Army level units with regiments of Medium and Heavy artillery. At times they also had a Field Regiment and/or a Heavy AA Regiment. The only definite reference I can find is for 6 Field Regiment which was part of 3 Army Group Royal Artillery. This had 174 on blue and red square and the 2nd Army badge. The same number could have also been used by 9 Medium Regiment of 9 Army Group Royal Artillery together with 21st Army Group badge or 19 Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery of 2 Canadian Army Group Royal Artillery with 1st Canadian Army badge.

None of these units were Light Anti Aircraft regiments.

I did say it was not straightforward.
