I went for Mel Brooks and Bob Mortimer , but there's quite a bit of History on there.

N Davies-Williams Gerald's War: The true and tragic tale of one man's life in peace and war .
The story is a novel, about the RAF service of Gerald Davies, the author's uncle.

Just released on Amazon as Kindle, PB (rapid del thanks to POD) and HB.
£2.99 to buy Kindle, free in Kindle Prime

Davies joined the RAF in 1936 as an AC2, trained as an armourer, then as an Observer, and by 1940 had been commissioned Pilot Officer Observer and posted to the Middle East for service in Egypt and Greece. He badly wanted to be a pilot, and had been twice recommended for training. KIA 13 April 1941, on an unescorted daylight 6-aircraft sortie by 211 Sqn Blenheims, all destroyed by the Luftwaffe with just 2 survivors on the day. He had by then about 70 Blenheim I ops to his credit, as Observer to 211 Sqn CO Gordon-Finlayson DSO DFC, with P/O Arthur Geary DFC in the turret. Irvine, the new CO, Davies as Observer, and Geary as WOp/AG were all killed.

The author's long toil in finding a great many original records, all included in the book, is highly creditable.
On this framework he has aimed to create a life for Gerry Davies, in highly fictionalised form. This he is careful to explain, from start to finish.
His aim was to create a readable memorial memoir of the service life of a cherished relative in World War 2 and in this the book succeeds.
Historical purists will find much to shake their heads or wag their fingers over, but in compiling his information the author can hardly be faulted, nor in the sincerity of his highly fictional account.

My above post is about a book, an e-book on Amazon.

So not an excuse to bignote self/own work. Should however mention that I've known Nigel since 2001, off and on. He's a good bloke.

And my page for Observer P/O G Davies 44072 RAF is here on my 211 Squadron site
G Davies ... my own work from info supplied by family, and from own research.

I had not realised how brief the edit window is here.

I believe (long time since I set it up) now you've hit ten posts, you should find the edit window pretty much infinite now.
(Might be 15, but I'll knock you onto the full status if so.)
    Cheers,

Is Alamein to Zem Zem now in the public domain? I'm looking at the amazon entry for it, and the Kindle edition seems to be from " ‎ Spitfire Publishers LTD". Searching for that led me to an entry on LinkedIn. I didn't bother to log in, but the google search result reads as follows:

Jonathan Reeve - Spitfire Publishers LTD - LinkedIn

Several days ago I found--literally found--a hardbound copy of Monty, Master of the Battlefield by Nigel Hamilton sitting on a hedge along with some other books in my neighborhood. That is a local custom here, just put stuff you don't want out on the sidewalk for people to take.

It's a well-written and well-researched book, marred by the author's disdain for everyone who ever disagreed with Montgomery. Nigel Hamilton is a nice guy though, I interviewed him years ago.

Yeah, but the Internet Archive is extremely sketchy. Basically, what they're doing is copyright violation if the book is in copyright. (The IA's original premise was they'd hold one digital copy of each book and "loan" it out. That's reasonable.) Even if the main text itself isn't, they've actually reproduced an exact edition, with a preface written by someone else.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think existing copyright laws are grotesque in their degree of overreach.

That aside, I'm actually more interested in getting a paper copy.

Until 10th October, Helion are having a sale of all their e-book titles with each being £4.99. The topics are very wide-ranging covering Scottish battles, Portugese efforts in Africa, The Rhodesian War, South American conflicts, Northern Ireland, Falklands War (British ASW efforts, Argentine naval ops etc), Chechen tactics v Russia, Japanese tactical organisation of ground forces and pretty much everything in between. Some are the 90-page type of books while others run to hundreds of pages:

"Pawn Books" is you, then? I have to say, it's good to make original texts available. I am intrigued by the Tank-Infantry Cooperation volume!

I did try to flag them as 'not for children' but that wasn't quite the effect I was after.

Sorry for the disappointment. I'll PM you some photos of me...

I'm surprised you had to ask.

TICBA ended up a lot bigger than I thought it would. It started off as a more practical alternative to loads of rather small pamphlets, then I started adding in extracts from ATMs and the like.

The intent was to put it all out there so people could make up there own minds. The academic coverage tends to be lots of smoke on top of very little fire.
