    I was reading his info on Wikipedia.

    They say this....... "In the autumn, 1944, Rall moved to Bad Wörishofen and became in instructor at the Verbandsführerschule of the General der Jagdflieger (Training School for Unit Leaders). Part of this training involved flying captured Allied aircraft and preparing notes for student pilots on their capabilities and deficiencies. Rall flew in mock-combat with Bf 109s; specifically, he flew the Supermarine Spitfire, Lockheed P-38 Lightning, P-47 Thunderbolt, and the P-51 Mustang.[83] "

    Did he ever write down, or tell anybody what his Views/Opinions were about each plane.?

    Rall: When I was injured, I became the commander of the German Fighter Leader School for about four months or so. At that time we had formed a squadron with captured enemy aircraft, and we flew them–the P-38, P-47, P-51, as well as some Spitfires. My left hand was still in bandages, but I was flying all of these aircraft, as I was very eager to learn about and evaluate them. I had a very good impression of the P-51 Mustang, where the big difference was the engine. When we received these aircraft we flew about 300 hours in them. You see, we did not know anything about how they flew, their characteristics or anything before that. In the P-51 there was no oil leak, and that was just fantastic. This was one of the things that impressed me, but I was also very interested in the electrical starting switches, which we did not have. This made it very difficult in starting our engines in the Russian winter. We had the inertia starter. The cockpits of all of these enemy aircraft were much more comfortable. You could not fly the Bf-109 for seven hours; the cockpit was too tight, too narrow. The P-51 (cockpit) was for me a great room, just fantastic. The P-38 with two engines was great, but I think the best airplane was the P-51. Certainly the Spitfire was excellent, but it didn’t have the endurance of the P-51. I think this was the decisive factor. They flew for seven hours, and we flew for one hour and 20 minutes.

    An interesting insight to the life and times of Rall

    The P 51 endurance was achieved by increased internal fuel capacity and the adoption of drop tanks from December 1943 when the first long range bomber mission was enacted. Escort daylight bomber raids into the heart of Germany from March 1944 then became a feature which extended the range of the 8th Air Force Fighter Groups.

    Additionally the P51 became the fighter that it was after converting to Merlins from the inadequate Allison engine.

    Regarding the question of Rall being allowed to join the fight against the Japanese,I think this would not have been endorsed politically. SS Meyer claimed on capture that he volunteered SS units for service against Japan but his offer was declined. The Russians had already declared that the would enter the war against Japan after the defeat of Germany and at the time of the German defeat were at peace with Japan despite the Axis arrangements between Germany and Japan...Italy had long fallen out of the Axis alliance.

    Changing sides at the downfall of the Third Reich was the claimed statesman moment for Himmler who proposed that surrendering German forces should be utilised by the Allies to stem the Red Army thrust into Germany. Himmler anticipated that the Allies would take up his offer following a policy, newly adopted, to ensure that communism did not spread into Western Europe....needless to say he never was given the opportunity to meet Eisenhower which was his intention.

    I think that the Allies stuck to their principles established at the various Big Three conferences...enemies were enemies and were to be treated as such.
