Just to be clear they are not his service records they are his Riyal Artillery Tracer Cards, and can be found on Ancestry. His service records can ONLY be obtained from the MOD using the forms here - Request records of deceased service personnel From those cards he was basically in Heavy Anti Aircraft units from his enlistment in 1940, went through N W Europe with 21 Army Group - 21st Army Group ending up being transferred to BAOR (British Army Of the Rhine) - Home so trying to sort Germany out after the war Would suggest you obtain his Service Records and also a members site would he you will find helpful is Home - The Royal Artillery 1939-45 Select 'Units' Select 'Heavy Anti Aircraft' then select the relevant Regt number as shown on the tracer card TD
Hi Tricky, thanks for correcting me and telling me where he was. He's was a school teacher before and after he enlisted. I imagine he got the War Medal, France & Germany Star and Defence Medal.
His service records should tell you what medal he was awarded - best to start with the official stuff TD Just thought - he may not have applied for them but with his service records they can still be applied for - I applied for my fathers and received them There is an example of service records on this thread From Sierra Leone, to Gold Coast and India... I'm lost?
Hello David, Welcome to the forum. Mr Paxon, my old Latin teacher! What is your interest in him? You weren’t one of his pupils were you? He was born 27 December 1910 in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Educated at Eastbourne College from 1925. Subsequently went to Oxford University where he gained an MA. The 1939 Register shows he was a schoolmaster at St Peter’s School, Exmouth, Devon. As you can see from his tracer card his wartime service was in Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiments, Royal Artillery. He served as a Gunner which is surprising; I would have thought he would have obtained a higher rank. In 1960 he joined the teaching staff at Eastbourne College Preparatory School teaching Latin, leaving at the end of 1966. The next year he began teaching classics at Great Walstead School, Lindfield, Sussex, commuting from his home in Hove. He died in 1990, Brighton registration district. Probate gives a Hove address. Attached is his entry from the Royal Artillery Attestation Ledgers. Regards, Richard
Richard, I've written the history of Westbrook House 1947-1968. I was there 1963-1967. Paxon taught c.1952. When were you there? I've only just properly identified Paxon, I've thought it was Paxton until now. Now the info comes flooding in, all except who did he leave his £300,000+ legacy to? Can we correspond by email? David
