G'day all, I am an army brat as my father served with Northamptonshire Regt, 5th and 1st Bn for 20 years, 1940 to 1960, then a couple of yrs with 2 Bn East Anglian Regt. Family travelled to many places with him.
He retired in 62 as a Colour Sgt - CQMS. Died in Australia in 75.

I served briefly myself, 63-66, Junior Sapper, Army Apprentice College, Chepstow. They only let me out as my father insisted I migrate with rest of family to OZ. I also served 6 yrs with Australian Army Reserve - Provost Corps 1967-1973 as I was a Civvy Copper for 36 yrs, 1967 to 2003.

I like to research the military sites.

    Thanks, Les.

In my avatar my father is seated front row, extreme right as you look at photo.

Guy to the best of my knowledge I could not say, but I don't think so. I know he was not at Dunkirk. But was moved into the 5th Bn Northamptonshire Regt from his initial training with Hampshire Regt because of 5th Northamptonshires casualties in the 2nd BEF and Dunkirk. Apart from the usual WW2 medals, he has the Africa and Italy stars. I know he was at Monte Cassino. I have not visited there but my son did a couple of years ago and said there were Northamptonshire Regt graves there.

I have not studied the 5th Northamptonshires war activities much so after Dunkirk I expect they reorganised and came up to strength in England. I have been back to the UK a few times and visited the Regimental museum at Abington Park, to my mind it was lacking.
Last trip to UK was in 2018, amongst other things I went to Duxford, great place and the Royal Anglian Regt has a display there, but very little appertaining to the Northamptonshire Regt.

I have picked quite a bit of WW2 history on Northamptonshire Regt by going through some of the documents posted on this site, thank you.
