Well done Steen. I visit it regularly. I thought it a good topic to bring some of the Generals out of the cupboard and make them more visible with a little history to boot.

I have a question once the current WW2 quiz is over on this forum. You should have a go at this one!
Will post in the next day or so.

Born on this day 20th November were:

Bulgarian Lieutenant-General Marko Atanasov Kolev in 1892
Soviet Major-General of Technical-Engineering Service Boris Pavlovich Aseev in 1901

Btw. I should mentioned that I have added the date of birth on a small part of the generals in my database so the ones that I list here is properly far from the only ones born on that date, i.e. I have not added the British generals' date of birth yet.

    Hi Steen,

Will your database eventually search by birthdate?

Will your database eventually search by birthdate?
    [/b]

    Geoff,

Yes eventually the generals will by searchable by exact dates whether it is date of birth, death, assignments or promotions. Some of it is already in the database i.e.:

    Kachalov, Lieutenant-General Vasilii Iakolevich (27.06.1890-04.08.1941):
16.03.38-11.06.40: Commander in Chief North Caucasian Military District
11.06.40-00.06.41: Commander in Chief Arkhangelsk Military District
    25.06.41-04.08.41: Commanding Officer 28th Army
    04.08.41: Killed in Action
00.00.41: Condemned to death in absentia, unknowing that he was Killed in Action
    23.12.53: Rehabilitated

Yet there are still lots of blanks as above. I don't know the exact date when he relinquished his command of the Arkhangelsk MD or when he was condemned to death.

All this takes time and I would prefer not to open up for the search functions until substantial data has been added to the database.

Btw. in the near future pictures of the generals will be added too, however this is yet another project that takes time.

    Kind Regards

Soviet Lieutenant-General Aleksandr Ivanovich Ryzhov in 1895

Yes, Malinovskii had a very interesting career.

Was Winship a lawyer (re his JAG affiliation)?

First a correction his first name was Blanton, not Blaton as I mistakenly have written in my database, and secondly yes he was a lawyer as he got a LL.B from University of Georgia in 1893. He had previously obtained a B.A. from Mercer University in 1889. Sadly I don't know in what capacity he served 1942-1944.

Born on this day 24th November were:

Japanese General Nobuyki Abe in 1875
Soviet Lieutenant-General Fedor Mikhailovich Kharitonov in 1899
Soviet Lieutenant-General Nikolai Kuzmich Klykov in 1888
Soviet Kombrig Nikolai Georgievich Lazutin in 1901
Soviet Colonel-General Nikolai Andreevich Lomov in 1899
Soviet Lieutenant-General of Artillery Ivan Davydovich Vekilov in 1894
Soviet Major-General William Gaulbert Weaver in 1888

So a big Japanese fish and a Soviet with a sad fate (Kombrig though perhaps not correctly a general officer rank it was equivalent to a Brigadier-General).

Born on this day 25th November were:

Soviet Lieutenant-General of Artillery Izrali Solomonovich Beskin in 1895
Soviet Major-General Ivan Aleksandrovich Dolgov in 1897
Soviet Lieutenant-General Filipp Danilovich Gorelenko in 1888
Soviet Major-General Dmitrii Nikolaevich Nadeshnyi in 1873
Soviet Army General Issa Aleksandrovich Pliev in 1903
Soviet Lieutenant-General Mikhail Nikolaevich Zavadovskii in 1900
US Brigadier-General John Mitchell Willis in 1886

I doubt that Nadeshnyi actually saw any service during WWII but he got the rank in 1940 when the general officer rank was introduced in the Red Army.
