A good question. Not on line, but I'll see what I can do (you knew i would )

Thanks for considering it. Yes I hoped you'd be interested enough to try and generate a list for me - transparent eh? :p

Would this be a useful feature in general? Always looking for good ideas, while it lasts.

Well I think it might, perhaps in groups under the batch order if you know what i mean.

Using your engine as it is at the moment means we can get a regtl list, but not a list of those who were issued no.s from the batch and then subsequently transferred ... a nominal roll of sorts. (Does that make sense, am I wrong?)

Don't quite know how much potential use a full numerical listing would have have unless maybe we got (approx) enlistment dates for individuals alongside (which I have done for IG, but not yet for any other unit. Starting GG here)

Maybe others would have some thoughts on the matter, if they have done similar. For those of us who have a general interest in memorial listings or in units, it's not possible to get all service records ... ... approximations help with background.

I also used TNA recommendations data to compose a 'nominal roll' ... ;)

    I've found 251....

7 figure nos. starting 6515? What did i do wrong!

    Or in total?

    Can I see them please?

Brilliant stuff Geoff, I'm off to play with the list.

Thanks very much for doing that for me.

I've added Age search to the search engine. It is UK only at present and if you don't enter a regiment, you'll also get some civilian war dead.
Some civilians, age below 1 year, have an age given in months and these are not found (I think the data is held in a different field to the usual age field)

    cheers,

    geoff

Geoff - I was searching for a listing of casualties of the Glasgow Highlanders (15th Scottish Div) for the month of February 1945, but could not select the unit in the search engine. Did do something wrong or do I have to look them up under another unit name?

Is it Highland Light Infantry(Glasgow) ?

    Geoff,

Trying to verify a possibly erroneous account of a Canadian Colonel killed 29 Sept 44. Tried
    Date: 01/09/1944-05/10/1944
    Rank: col
    Regiment/Corps: Canada
and get 2621 results, apparently all Canadians in that date range

Switched Regiment/Corps to United Kingdom and get 24, which seems reasonable and is accurate based on a few spot checks.

    Any ideas?

It looks like rank search is not working for non-UK. I'll get back to you on this.

    cheers,

    Geoff

Searching my data for 'CANADA' + 'COLONEL' + 'SEPT or OCT 44' only gets two results, which does not seem to be what you are looking.
Rank searching is only working for UK on the search engine, not sure why!
Please let me know if you need me to do more searching.

    Thanks Geoff,

Checking across several sources, pretty comfortable that the original reference must be incorrect.

Just spotted that it is now over 10 years since you first introduced your amazing search facility to this forum.

I was impressed then and I am even more impressed now, that it is still going strong.

i used to have a Sgt.Major who's favourite expression of approval was "Well done that there man !"

If anyone ever deserved that saying it is you mate, so well done and long may you continue to help others.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Do you still have the site that one could search for non commonwealth casualties, although I have recently seen Polish Casualties on the CWGC website, and having just checked a cemetery nearby to me I see that other nationalities are now shown - about time!

  18. geoff501

geoff501 Achtung Feind hört mit Patron

It was taken down. CWGC added foreign nationals to their search but some countries did not give permission for their data to be made available (hello France). It was too much trouble for me to modify my system so I removed it. Perhaps CWGC have not put it into the new system yet, but Polish nationals were there before their recent upgrade.

EDIT: The previous CWGC had a check box to search for foreign national. This seems to be missing on the new system. However the records are there - try searching for first name Fritz.
I suspect the software bods who've developed this new system have never used the previous system. There are some annoying features designed into it, and some simple shortcuts missing.
