Von Poop thanks for that, every time I see the MkVI '10.5 cm leFH-16 I get the feeling that even with the recoil spade it must bounce around.

Always wondered why the British never did something similar with the 2 Pdr when it needed vehicles after Dunkirk, especially after building and testing this in 1938.

Based on a Mk. VI hull this experimental 'tank destroyer' with a 2-pdr gun was tested by the arm.jpg

The Universal carriers impressed the Italians so much they built their own version, not seen many pictures of captured vehicles in Italian service.

Very interesting to see all these pictures of the Germans using captured vehicles however I doubt very much if there would have been a rush of german personnel wanting to operate them.

I am sure as soon as the shape of one of these appears in front of their colleagues there would have been a high number of 'Friendly Fire' incidents.

    Not for me thanks!!

Not really a theatre or era that I'm very well up on - a couple of pictures of a captured AEC Armoured Command Vehicle. This doesn't seem to be one of the three regularly mentioned examples as it carries the formation sign of 1st Armoured Division. Was it named 'Hermes' by the British or the Germans ?

Just found this link showing a nice picture of a German 76mm Sherman

    http://www.ww2incolor.com/us-armor/sherman-76-02.html

    Edit:

I just noticed the body on the front hull. so 'nice' was probably not appropriate, but still an interesting picture of a captured Sherman.

No. It is the German Cross in white 'outline' distorted because you are looking from the side.

Nothing goes to waste, especially in the Western Desert. I guess this is the Western Desert of Egypt. More than likely this is somewhere in Libya. Probably not Tunisia though, but I could be mistaken. Once you get out in the desert, it all pretty much looks the same. I've never been there actually, but I've seen the desert in the movies that were more than likely filmed in California. This doesn't look like a Californian desert. I really don't know now.

So that's a US built tank, up-gunned by the Brits , captured by the Germans ending up as booty for the Soviets.
The Japanese must be involved somewhere to get the major WW2 nations in there, maybe it was a Japanese camera ;)

A German penal-panzer battalion? Those Jerrys couldn't have been terribly happy with one in the background.
