    (And I have a soft spot for this thread, despite definitely no soft spot for horses.)

    I read that in WWI draft horses could be trained to wear gas masks pretty easily but they couldn't get them to work while wearing them.

    I've read several stories over the years about how much mules hate snakes and how they make sure they are really, really, REALLY dead when they attack them.

    First time I've seen it on video.

    With a decade of rationing to go, perhaps the British Restaurants diversified into French ones?

    Pottered back onto that bulletin while looking for something else (lost my file of horsedrawn images).

    What's as interesting as the content, is the tone.
    It might just be written by an officer filled with an American admiration for the horse, but also smacks of that thing Zaloga etc. began pointing out in the 90s; that much of the postwar assessment of German methods & abilities was built heavily on sometimes cosy interviews with German officers.
    It wouldn't be particularly out of place in Signal magazine. (The tone, that is. Signal never seemed keen on too much equine content. Not the message they wanted to put out }

    More than just cosy interviews. the Department of Defence actually employed some German former senior officers to write such assessments - for example on German tank maintenance methods.
    I wonder if some "American" evaluations were in fact ghost written

    Riding his draft horse bareback. Looks like he is holding reins but they might be just to the halter with no mouth bit. Great picture.
