I would absolutely love to own a K98 rifle, but unfortunately i live in the UK and as far as i know its illegal even if it is deactivated without a license. Though i could be wrong, anyone?

I'm sure many members on here have ww2 collections of weapons and other memorabilia, which i would love to see if you have photos.

Thanks for sharing the photos though, i hope you find a good home for it.

You ARE allowed deactivated weapons in the UK without a licence. That's why they're deactivated. :D

    really?

With the gun laws in this country i don't know whats what. I mean you cannot own a replica soft air gun without a license (which shoots tiny plastic bb's) which in no way could hurt someone let alone seriously injure them. But then again i guess its because it actually fires something.

Thanks for that though Fruitcake, its interesting to know. I do want to get hold of a few ww2 deactivated weapons.

Yep allowed without a license. It is, after all, just an expensive paper weight.

Hey there, Well this was my first and only ever deacivated gun, i did email the police before i baught it just to get some knowledge on guns. This is legal because its deactivated and it has a certificate with it, If it did fire then i would need to have a licence for it and could only use it on say for example a gun club were you can fire guns.

email your police in your area for some info they will reply back to you or go onto their website and search FAQ for deactivated guns etc, i am in Uk in Liverpool btw!

Ok, thanks for the information Leelad03. I'm a bit jealous of that gun, if i had the money right now i would definitely be purchasing it off you.

I love the photo you posted up of the view down the iron sights. I see in the 3rd from top photo you have taken out ( i'm not 100% what you call it but lets just call it) the bolt. Is that the only part that disassembles?

Sorry for all the questions, but i will be buying one in the future and i just wondered what to expect.

The K98k can be stripped to it's component parts in about 10mins if you know what your doing, but the bolt can be a problem if it's not removed with the safety in the upright (middle) position, as if its knocked or dropped the body will twist round (effectively the pin firing) and you won't get it back in unless you know how to reset it.
A nice late example, is it a Russian Capture with fient badly engraved No's on the bolt & Mag Cover Plate(can't see from the pics)? if NOT it's worth more money.

Yes, it is a Russian capture and rework as indicated by the big "X" stamped over the serial number on the receiver ring.

....and ten minutes to field strip a Mauser? It should be able to be done in less than two!

    Regards

If the rifle did work it would be worth some money. Are you 100% sure that it will not fire because a piece of paper don't mean anything when it comes to old weapons.

Think its a bit overpriced atm...

I did see one for £150 in Wales was 39 made and frankly needing a lot of work (it was a dog), but prices are always higher online remember compared to shows...

Yes - you can get them for about £200 -220.
Having said that if the bayonet and sling are included it is a bit better especially if the sling is period.

You should try advertising it on a ww2 reenactment
