    Absolutely fascinating!

Will it end up in a local museum?

I suspect that may have been part of the German Commando unit trying to destroy the bridge in Sept '44.

What was it doing there? Could it have been involved in attacks against the bridge during Market-Garden, in case the armored spearhead broke through to Arnhem?

Is it just the tail section that they've found ?

Late war Biber ops in holland & Belgium:
    uboat.net - U-boat Operations

    Far from a glittering success.

One wonders at any human remains being found?

    Correct!
It may have got entangled in the anti-torpedo nets that were placed to protect the bridge.

Don't know. The article doesn't mention that only a part was found.

    Found a different article.
The front part and the "tower" are missing.

It almost looks like the tail of a fighter aircraft.

I'm not sure about trusting a link that places Fecamp in Belgium. Last time I was there it was on the Normandy coast.:)

I too wondered about casualties but the wreck just looks like the tail section to me. Was it dredged to the banks or is the river very low now ?

River indeed is low. It was found on/in(?) the "beach" of the river.

There were several attemps by M/subs to destroy the bridge in Jan-Feb 45 while the Allied front at Nijmegen were waiting for the start of "Veritable" on 7th Feb

One of the articles mentioned that it might be diplayed in Fort Pannerden. Not a very obvious place.
