Where did German snipers receive their training? What was their average life span? Where were they normally stationed? Was their a German medal for a certain number of kills? Sorry for asking so many questions but I'm just curious about the basic life of a German sniper.
There's a quote in there (youtube vid. posted in #2) that Hitler decreed that enemy snipers were to be shot rather than taken prisoner. I had a quick look to see if this German "kill order" pertaining to enemy snipers was referenced much elsewhere, but haven't turned up much, in about the 10 mins - or so - I've been "googling" ;-) Though what I could find/see might be largely in reference to the Eastern Front, where the Russian's, I think, did not initially ratify the Geneva convention? But again, it's a rabbit hole at the moment, I don't know much about at the mo. and could get lost down etc. There are 112 mentions of "sniper" in this (link below) - and it's quite a long article on the subject - I have not had the time to read yet ;-) German Snipers in Normandy 1944
