Holy mackerel. I want to see these German tanks with 12 inches of frontal armor and that 20 pounder gun.
Well it's true, isn't it? I mean, it was clearly written without even looking at wikipedia... or not understanding it. The mind BOGGLES.
Now, not 100% easy to identify, for me anyway, but what do you reckon that is flying past forebodingly in the recent special of Channel 5’s All Creatures Great and Small? It’s supposed to be Christmas 1938 by the way. Have a look at 50.07 and again at 51.25.
"Defeated Japan" Not that they didn't engage the Japanese in some difficult combat and earn a hollowed place in the history of the war, but there were far more Army troops engaged in the Pacific than there were Marines 22 Army divisions vs 6 Marine. Then, there is that small effort the Navy gave...
Not easy to be definite is it, but my first thought was they’d just thrown a “that’ll do” icon at it, so bound to be a Lancaster, followed immediately by the usual “well, that can’t be right” lol. I agree it’s a four engined bomber; that last shot, silhouetted against the moon, seems to give us a glimpse of that, but I ruled out Stirling as I think, as hard as it is to see, that the tail has a twin fin configuration. I did also wonder Halifax? Whatever it is, I’m not sure it should be there, but perhaps it’s just not clear enough to be an obvious “glaring mistake”.
Insight Guides book on Finland page 200. The Finnish swastika has nothing to do with Nazi-Germany & tanks weren't around in 1910. The Winter War was in 1940.
They might be "DP" rifles, i.e. drill purpose only. I know that Indian Police were using Enfields as service arms until at least fairly recently.
A two for one deal. I heard a condescending radio host tying to put down some politician who said 'gazpacho police.' He said she confused a cold tomato soup with the East German secret police.
I'm sure the jacket designer was just copying the caption that was found on the original picture, but somehow I doubt COL Viet would be ecstatic with this cover design...
What exactly was wrong with the party marching to surrender Singapore flying the Union Flag upside down? Wasn't the Empire in distress at this time.
Perhaps it should have been but it wasn't carried upside down at the surrender. My argument with the IWM is that their main photo of the flag shows it upside down. They told me it was to show the other side. In doing so they've managed to flip it. Look carefully at the fly and the damage and you should see what I mean. Tim
