I am trying to compile a list of Glasgow units in the Second World War, in other words battalions/squadrons/etc raised in Glasgow or with a largely Glaswegian character.

Does anyone have any idea where I might find such information?

Cal - there is a Scottish Museum / Historial group which has a list of all Scottish regiments and battalions - was a long time ago and their name escapes me at this time - but I shall put my thinking cap on and try to come up with the name - but you could try your local library - there must be a book on it somewhere

    Cheers

    Thanks, that would be good.

I know all the geographical areas associated with the Scottish regiments already - specifically what I need is to find out which battalions came from Glasgow itself. For example, the HLI and Cameronians were the two regiments with ties to the city, and some of the battalions of these regiments were based there, others in say Hamilton or Paisley or wherever. I managed to find the equivalent information for WW1 at The Long Long Trail, but sadly have found no similar resource for WW2.

The 2nd Glasgow Highlanders served with the 15th (Scottish) Division in North-West Europe. Their first battle of WW2 was at Cheux on 28th June 1944.

My father served with the Queens Own Royal Glasgow Yeomanry TA from appox 1935

Mobilised on the outbreak of war and turned into an Anti Tank regt

54 (The Queen's Own Royal Glasgow Yeomanry) Anti-Tank Regiment - but I think it was 64 not 54

    Hi Cal,

I've been going through loads of old WW2 books at my fathers and I've come across one called War Diary and it is made up of recollections of men who served in WW2 all over the world and from all sides.

There's a picture and a recollection from a Capt. J. Leopard of the 10th City of Glasgow Field Regiment Royal Artillery. His account is from Op Varsity. If you are interested I'll type them up for you ?

    Cheers
