Anyone got a really good local bookshop?
Online service you're particularly chuffed with?
Post em' here... Good suppliers can be hard to find.

Some of the best I've used:

The Remarkable Abebooks, an umbrella for many good dealers:
AbeBooks Official Site - New & Secondhand Books, New &Used Textbooks, Rare & Out of Print Books

Very solid service and great for the obscure armour titles:
Home - World War Two Books – Military History Books online - Ceredigion - Wales UK

Very wide range, never mail ordered from 'em but have shopped at their Beltring stall many times:
Barbarossa Books, Military and Modelling Books, DVDs and Magazines

Splendid little secondhand and new Military specialist in Lewes
Lewesbook Centre - Military and Aviation Books

    The one, the only:
    Naval & Military Press

    For the Machine fixated:
Motor Books - Motoring/Aviation/Maritime/Military/Railway Books DVDs and CDs

If they don't carry it - You're in for a hunt:
    Landmark Military Books

I know there's many more out there.
(Particularly interested in smaller ones that might not even have a website.)

    Cheers,
    Adam.

This one is a mile away from where I live and has a small military collection. I've picked up about 10 books from there in the last 6 months. Worth a browse if you can get there, as the the chap who runs it does not always update his site regularly. Downside is that his postage costs tend to be a little on the high side I think.

Funnily enough, I have a spreadsheet with all my military stuff on them and who I bought them from.

Here is a real gem I found. The lady who helps run it was mortified that the description on the condition of a book I ordered was not good enough. A slight tear on the dustjacket.

Real customer service and you can visit if you are local.

Click on the view category and all will be revealed.

For any of our Dutch speaking members. This is quite good

    OOSTERHOFF BOEKEN

Go to catalogue and select Oorlog (War). About 9 pages of items. I've bought 4 english/dutch books here and the lady is very helpful.

Here is one from Clarksburg, New Jersey, US of A. Huge collection and so so postage costs. Sadly with the pound poor against the dollar, it ain't as reasonable as it once was. If you are looking for something unusual, you might find it here. Over 8000 titles.

    20th Century Wars

Got a couple or 3 from this one.

I've bought from Turner Donovan and they're very good for older publications like immediate post-war battalion and divisional histories. Their condition descriptions etc. are in my experience spot-on.

A few that spring to mind:

Paul Meekins Military & History Books

Paul is a very friendly chap and has an excellent selection of WW2 Airborne stuff ;).

MLRS Books Limited: Reprints of military history source materials, especially from World War II

These specialise in reprints of old WW2 documents and pamphlets etc. A bit pricey but you can find some real rarities here.

Antiquarian books, rare books, used books, from British & Irish book dealers

    Good for foreign language stuff.

    Happy hunting :)........

I've tended to pick-up most of my rare or out-of-print books on ebay or amazon. I think I've probably paid over the odds for some of them, but a book collection is like the forth rail bridge, its never quite finished....

Mind you I do try and get round second-hand bookshops once in a while, I've found some bargains before.

And don't rule out the local Library, often they will have a book sale every now and then, and if they decide to get rid of some military books you might be onto a winner.

I haunt the used book shops, never know what you can find there and the prices
(generally) much much less than new.

Assignment to Catastrophe: 2 Vols. Prelude to Dunkirk, July 1939-May 1940; The Fall of France, June 1940. 1st Editions.

I ordered the books above from this chap and got them today-Excellent Condition, Excellent Books and Excellent Dealer Service. So much so I have asked him to look for some very expensive out of print books for me that I've been struggling to find.

    Turner Donovan Military Books

Check out his site-He appears to have a lot of Regimental History Books. I would definately buy from him again.

    Cheers

The Blue List - New, Antiquarian and Second-hand Booksellers specialising in Military History on Land, Sea and In the Air bought to you by Tommies Guides Military Book Specialists

My next door neighbour visted a Castle in Wales over the bank holiday w/end and picked up a brochure on there for me. I've never heard of them before and I thoght I'd given them a try regarding the ever elusive Distinguished Flying Cross book.

Have to say, my main experience with the 'Blue List' sellers is that they're often at the more expensive end of the market.
They may have a deeper range of more obscure titles, but no more than others that I've noticed.
