Good news! It is now possible to post Google Earth kmz files as attachments. This means you can create a Google Earth location as a file, and upload it as an attachment here. Forum members can then click on the attachment, and it will open at that location in Google Earth; much easier than posting the GPS location as we had to before.

Thanks to Adam for sorting out the technical side of this!

Let us know if you have any problems in doing this.

A short guide to creating kmz files is below; on a seperate thread I will add some locations.

Creating a Google Earth Location File

    Step 1: find a location

Using Google Earth, click on the 'Add Placemark' button shown below.

    Step 2: Create Placemark

Click the location you want to mark and a dialogue box comes up. This gives you the Lat/Long and enables you to chose the type of marker and give the location a name.

    Step 3: Create a KMZ file [1]

Right-click on your newly created location and select 'Save Place As'...

    Step 4: Create a KMZ File [2]

Now save your file to a folder, or your default folder you use. It will be saved as a .kmz file, which you can upload here using the Manage Attachments button below your reply pane.

I was on holiday back in October when Paul gave this tutorial , i've only just used it for the first time.
    It works OK for me.
It's alot handier for giving out GE locations than the way we used to do it.
Sorry for being slow on the uptake.

    It's ok, I forgive you... almost. :D

It does certainly make the GE discussions much easier.

I like it very much - now off to find some places that have some history about them

    marcus69x I love WW2 meah!!!

I love Google Earth but the PC I'm using at the mo is an ex-college one and is too slow for GE. It takes about 5 mins for the resolution to clear up. :-( Gonna buy a new one soon so I can spend hours on GE again ;-)
