Can someone help me out ??? Are the books written by Alan Wood 'The Glider Soldiers' and 'History of the Glider Pilot Regiment' the same. I do have The Glider Soldier, but was wondering of the other book was just a reprint with a new title ???
This review was on Amazon about 'History of the Glider Regt.' which might give you a clue ? "I was privileged to meet Claude. In his book, which is superbly illustrated by Alan Richards, Claude tells the story of this unique regiment in a clear style which allows the reader to understand how the GPR developed and the valuable work it did, during and after WW2. An excellent tribute."
Thanks Drew, but no it does not give a clue. The Glider Soldier does also have illustrations and gives also a general view of the actions of the GP Regiment...
Eh? written by Alan Wood The one you posted the picture of is written by Claude Smith. They must be different books then.
They are different I have all three, both of the Alan Wood books and the Claude Smith. The one shown is new out in paperback, is a reprint. I am in town at the moment in an internet caff as my computer is broken so I can't give you any publishers info. Maybe later in the week. Bod
Guys, I am sorry to say but I must have been sleeping ! It must have been caused when I searched for 'Alan Wood' and 'Glider Pilots' on the web when Clause Smits book came up... I did not look but thought automaticaly that the book was also written by Alan Wood.... Happy to notice that not all are sleeping !
To make it even more confusing (for myself) : I know I must have a book written by Claude Smith somewhere... Can not find it at the moment anyway as I am re-decorating my living room and all Arnehm books are boxed... So, just ordered the book 'History of the Glider Regt' (again ?) ...
And to make things more confusing, Alan Lloyd also wrote one, called The Gliders... I've got that one as well, in paperback. I was confused, and a long way from my bookshelf, when I wrote that Alan Wood had written a History of the GP Regt. He hasn't. I do have two books by him though, 'The Glider Soldiers' and 'History of the World's Glider Forces'. A couple more that I have on the shelf and are worth looking out for are 'Lion with Blue Wings, the story of the Glider Pilot Regiment' by Ronald Seth and 'The Wings of Pegasus' by the Glider Pilot Regt. commander Brigadier George Chatterton. Sorry for the confusion, Bod
