Recent research has shown that Lieutenant Bungay is buried here. The Commission is in the process of producing a headstone to mark his grave. Please note that this casualty was previously commemorated on the Brookwood Memorial; his name will be removed when the appropriate panel is next replaced.

Found this thread when looking for those with the Mahratta Light Infantry mentioned.

Robert Bungay now has an updated CWGC record: https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2145422/robert-bungay/

His name does not appear in the regimental history: Valour Enshrined : Not Available : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

His death was after Indian Independence on 15/8/1947. I assume he died in the UK, perhaps from war injuries or had died in India and was returned home - which would be unusual.

    A mystery.
