    Hi Guys
This is my first post on this site and was hoping you may be able to help in finding out where / what my great uncle did in India.
His name was Christopher Henry Thomas 2568194 Royal Signals. He joined the TA in the early 30's as a dispatch rider and with the onset of war he was Posted to 2nd S.T.C. He is stationed in Wales for the early part of the war then in Jan 1943 he is posted to India arrives in India 19/3/43 where he joins the 15th Indian Corps Signals these are the bits I understand.
I will list his next postings

    18/6/44 X II List
    21/6/44 152nd !! Corps Sigs

He is out in India for two and half years but I cannot find out any more information . Family talk says that he may have been at Kohima but I have nothing to back this up.

Any info would be great as I can add this to my next issue of the family newsletter of which Christopher is the main story.

    Regards
    Gordon.

    Hello Gordon,

His army number is consistent with joining a Signals unit in the 1930s.

This isn't really my subject but the entry '18/6/44 X II List' records that he was a casualty withdrawn from the front line. See this thread:

    http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/15663-x-lists-service-records/

If he was then posted to '152nd !! Corps Sigs' on the 21st of the month, then presumably he cannot have been seriously injured. I don't think there was such a formation as 152nd Corp in India or Burma in 1944 and certainly not the 152nd Infantry Brigade which was disbanded in August 1941. There is no British or Indian division numbered 152, either. Perhaps a slip of the pen?

    Thanks CS
Now I know in what context the numerals mean it makes more sense. after looking at the details again it seems more likely that the entry is 2nd Corps Signals.
There is a further entry which reads X ( VIII ) A List 19/8/45 I take it that this is again casualty withdrawn.

So if he was 2nd Corps Signals have you any idea where this would have placed him on 21/6/44.

    G62,

I don't know what exactly X (viii) A means. Have a look at the thread I posted a link to earlier. It might mean thatt he was in transit or undergoing further training.

There was no 2nd Corps in the 14th Army: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourteenth_Army_%28United_Kingdom%29#Order_of_battle

However, there was the 2nd Infantry Division, which fought at both Imphal and Kohima in mid 1944: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2nd_Infantry_Division_%28United_Kingdom%29#India_and_Burma

I'm sure you will be able to find more online about the 14th army and your great uncle's service.
