Whilst "idly" researching on another thread regarding Cardross, I came across this CWGC entry
GRAHAM, GEORGE WILLIAM. Gunner. Service Number 1632788. Died 06/05/1941. Aged 32
    364 Bty., 116 H.A.A. Regt. Royal Artillery
Son of David and Isabel Graham, of Cardross; husband of Janet Shanks Graham, who died in the same incident. Buried at CARDROSS CHURCHYARD. Sec. C. Grave 140.

GRAHAM, JANET SHANKS CLARK. Civilian. Died 06/05/1941. Aged 26.
of 82 Glasgow Road. Wife of Gnr. George William Graham, R.A. (killed in same incident). Died at 82 Glasgow Road.
Reporting authority BURGH OF DUMBARTON, SCOTLAND

presumably killed in an air raid, as both seem to have been at home when killed.
I'd also assume they share the grave in Cardross.

Anyone have further information, just curious...

Thanks all, it does seem to be as a result of German bombing - blast and falling masonry.
I was just curious as he seemed to be a serving soldier and thought unusual for his wife to be there, but it was their residence so presumably home on leave...

    Many thanks, Guy
Did you check the 18 casualties on CWGC?
14 died at 82 Glasgow Road - so what sort of building would that have been? Hospital? Cinema? Air raid shelter?
Individual locations for the other 4 were: 10, Wallace Street; 93, Brucefield Grove; Dixon Drive and 7, Levensgrove Terrace (died at No 8)

The War Memorial also has a John W Graham, but I can't trace a CWGC entry to Cardross or Dumbarton, but must be related?

Don't spend a lot of time, Pals, just my curiosity and if I find a loose thread, I pull it!

It appears to have been a three storey tenement, it's a Kwik fit garage now.

I've just started looking up my family tree and although my father had told me stories of this we never knew too much about it.

I've always been interested in finding out more about my Great Uncle Georges brother (John Westwood Fife Graham 14768) who was killed on 1st July 1916 at the battle of the Somme and who's remembered on the memorial to the missing at Thiepval and on the Cardross war memorial.

This is my Great Uncle and Aunt, my Great Uncle was home on leave and I'm unsure if he was visiting for living with my Great Grandfather who also died when a bomb hit the tenement building.

My father said they were all remembered on a memorial that was originally in a Coop shop but I've never been able to find out anything about this, now I know there's a grave at Cardross Parish Church I'll now try to visit it. I'd like to visit my Aunts and Great Grandfathers who were killed at the same time but have no idea where there graves are.

The information on this thread has been absolutely brilliant and I can't thank you all enough.

    Kind Regards
    Stuart Graham
