dbf can clearly type much faster than I. I was going to add both these file references from the National Archives.

From the casualty list he is simply posted as `missing` not `Killed` on the 21st May 1940 ? He also features on the official `Missing` lists ? As the good folks above have pointed out you may find out more viewing the `missing men` file which sought to discover the missing mans ultimate fate?

Looking more like the official 'Missing' date was changed to a confirmed date of death, rather than the date of death being amended. Unless there is other evidence relating to the change of date and/or casualty type?

When someone was reported as Missing, it wasn't necessarily the date on which they went missing. It could be the earliest date that witness accounts could be squared against official records kept by the unit. Especially difficult, I'd imagine, during the rapidly changing circumstances encountered by many BEF units.

It's a similar situation with those CWGC records which give a range - "between DD/MM/YY and DD+/MM/YY" - when no single date of death could be recorded with any acceptable degree of certainty.

Edit: Merged threads relating to same person, makes it easier for members to access all info shared to date.

I don't think this officer was with this battalion. He was attached to 2nd Division on the 12th May on TCP duty. I suspect he was with them at the time of his death. Do the records mention any attachment to another unit?

Thank you for this info. The correction seems
Absolutely none. Just his standard enrolment with the Royal Warwick’s

I have all the 2 Div diaries but they may take a while to go through. I'll try and have a look at the General Staff one tonight.

    Hi Alec,

Have just stumbled across your post.

The precursor to GHQ Liaison Regiment was the No3 British and Air Mission which was used during the BEF. Looking at the nominal rolls after Dunkirk just for a confirmation, there wasn't a Thomas ever attached.

    Thanks
