Apologies if this has been spoken about already, but I just watched an amazing documentary.

It was about how the crew of an American bomber crashed and parachuted into Borneo. They were found by the native people and protected. The natives attacked the Japanese and re-instituted headhunting, which had been outlawed by the British previously. They killed and beheaded a number of Japanese.

Meanwhile, a British Major took a group of commandos into Borneo and found the US airmen. He also made use of the natives to conduct a guerrilla war against the Japanese.

    It was a fascinating documentary.

But why or how the 5 dutch guilders per japanese head from a parachuted english team ?
(why not british money ? and how much guilders did he take with him per parachute ...in coins ? = heavy?.. 5 guilders then is 30 euro today s worth.....and why so "cheap"..offer the dayaks 20 guilders per jap head and all japs wld have disappeared from Bornea in a few months ;) )

Yes, surely this was thought about prior to him getting there. He must have known he would need the money and taken it with him.

Is certainly thinking outside the box.

Harrison organised the Kelabits, a tribe centred on Bario in the 5th Division of Sarawak. They also turned out in 1962 to help mop up after the ill-fated revolt in Brunei when the remnant insurgents tried to escape to Indonesia. AFAIK there are still no roads into Bario, but I've got lots of photos of it taken in 1965/6. Post war Harrison ran the Borneo museum in Kuching. The Kelabits were always a cheerful crew, noted for the elongated earlobes due to their heavy weighted earings.
