Sorry if I've uploaded any duplicates Please note that the picture of William George Rogers in uniform, from what I'm told he wanted to go to war, was dressed ready to go buy for some health reason wasn't allowed to go. Wether he ultimately did later we don't know. More pics
PS - I’m new to all this so if I’m putting anything up that I shouldn’t please let me know I’m just trying to give as much infomation as I can. I’m sure you all would anyway so thanks in advance! Geoff
I notice on Betsy's death cert. that she's described as the 'wife of William George Rogers', not the widow, suggesting that he may still have been living in 1980. Just a thought. No reply from Staffs Registrars as yet.
I knew my Nanna Rogers(Betsy), I would have been 13 when she’d died and saw her since I was born but William Rogers had never been around, I’d never seen him ever, or at least, nobody ever said he’d been around, the only person I ever recollect would be Ivor when I was very young but I don’t know when he died.
Hi, Just been dipping into this topic as the story unravels. Kudos to all members who are taking the time to assist you. Just to chip in with my comment on your above question. I note you mention an enquiry with Staffordshire Record Office is pending. The marriage certificate has a serial number on the top left hand corner. If you didn’t mention that to them I would do so.Having said that not sure that county record office would have copy Civil marriage registers. More likely to just hold copy of church marriage registers. IMHO Enquiry re civil marriage certificate ought to be by personal visit to Register office covering the place of marriage or by email with GRO in Southport. Provide them with a copy of the queried document and they should be able to confirm any alterations. Good Luck Steve
Yes, thanks Steve and everyone else who’s been helping. I’ll contact them now and see what goes and report back accordingly. Cheers Geoff
Steve, I sent a digital copy of the marriage cert to Staffs, so they will see the serial no. The marriage was a Church marriage (Cannock St Luke) so they should have a copy. Geoff, As well as Ivor Henry, the Thomas family seem to have stayed close to Betsy, even when she moved house. 1936: 1963: That's, what, more than 25 years.
I’ve just been speaking with Staffordshire Records Dept and they have that record of marriage in St Lukes so I’ve ordered it and may possibly have it later this afternoon - think I’m getting addicted to this now!! Lol
Amazing that you’ve found this, that meant Ivor was about for a long, long time! My mum’s 83 and she’s not recalling things as well now obviously but what you’ve found cannot be coincidence as Betsy’s sister’s name was Rose, and she married a George and they ended up in Walsall, Rose’s daughter still lives there now and as I’ve said I’m trying to get my mum to find informative out from her but they must be sister and brother in law, I’m assuming William Thomas was either George’s father or baby.
The badge appears to be `Prince of Wales feathers` a few to choose from though ?......Glamorgan Yeomanry ?? (ish) Kyle
Was thinking maybe Welsh Regt? Close up would be helpful. Not all that unusual for a man not to serve overseas for one reason or another, in which case the remaining military records are often very scarce indeed, alas.

If we can't get it, perhaps be worth posting on the Great War Forum, or British & Commonwealth Military Badges? Edit: apologies for the double post! Was editing my original and somehow managed this instead...
Just got home so will put up a scan in a bit, Staffordshire Record Office haven’t got back to me this afternoon, very exited to see what’s is on there before it was changed!
