The attached photo shows a badge on the top of the sleeve from a soldier who died in October1944 in the Netherlands who was in the 1st Bn South Lancashire Regiment at the time. He joined up around mid 1942. Does anyone recognise the badge and can they confirm it is from the South Lancs - or a different regiment? I am aware that men were often moved between regiments, especially after D-Day, and I am wondering if this is the case here.

    Hi Elaine

The patch at the top of his sleeve is that of the 55th (West Lancashire) Infantry Division. At some points in the war the 1/4th & 2/4th (TA) Bns of the South Lancs Regt were in this Division, but I can find no evidence that the 1st South Lancs were.

The small rectangular arm of service badge below the 55th's patch is possibly that of the Infantry, which was solid red in colour.

Sorry can't help with the third badge down.

Thanks -Sounds like he might have switched Battalions at some point. Often the photos were taken early in their service.
