Can anyone identify the vehicles in the photo please? I have posted this elsewhere but had no response. Thanks.
There's a few M/bike lovers on here Dave that will be able to help you out I'm sure. That bikes a bit too old for me though Cheers Andy
The Bike's a Matchless, trademark visible on the tank (G3L??). Trucks look like Canadian supplied Dodge 3-Tonners, but I'd have to double-check that.
The bike is very definitely the Matchless G3L, recognisable by its 'Teledraulic' forks. I think that Adam is correct too with his suggestion of a Canadian Dodge but I find these 4x2 militarised civilian pattern trucks very difficult to tell apart. If you absolutely want chapter and verse on the trucks, including contracts etc. the 'Maple Leaf Up' is probably the place to ask. Do you have any background info on the photograph ?
I find these 4x2 militarised civilian pattern trucks very difficult to tell apart. You are not alone Rich .
Thanks for the replys. Rich / Passchendaele- only background and dates I can give you are that it is my Dad's RASC unit. He was sent overseas to Italy via North Africa in September 1943 and was posted as a driver to 72 Tipper Company. So the photo was taken between Sept 43 and April 45, but whether the photo is in Africa or Italy I do not know. Someday, soon hopefully, I plan to visit the NA and find out more from his unit's war diaries. Dave
Dave Have you seen this thread ? : http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/weapons-technology-equipment/11491-can-anyone-identify-motorbyke.html Cheers Ron
Ron I hadn't seen the thread. Thanks for sharing. That's a great picture of you and the Norton. I loved the follow up story about the US lorry driver and a bed of peanuts. Terrific stuff. Dave
