Help identifying rank / regiment

    Hi Im hoping someone can help give us some information on a photo found in my wife's family photographs it's of her great grandad any information like service, rank and regiment would be fantastic.

    We believe he was in luftwaffe ,I dont know much about these things did all German soldiers wear the swastika like in this picture as others he is in it is not visible ?

    Hi Adam,

    I found this description of similar looking insignia on line. It seems to be a National Service badge with the numerals denoting the group (area) the man was allocated to. The background colour of the shield denotes rank: silver for officers and white for NCOs.

    This might be an explanation of your soldier's badge?

    It struck me as a labour corps uniform, the cap design and badge in particular.

    Hi all,
    Thank you so much for your help and such quick replies the information you have posted is fantastic help thanks and it all seems to tie in as he is very young in this picture and the only other pictures we have is after the war in his luftwaffe uniform.
