Hi there, I'm not well versed in ww2 history when it comes to the German/Nazi troops. My uncle recently passed and he had this photograph from my great great uncle who stole it from a dead German. Would anyone be able to identify what kind of troops they are? Wehrmacht, SS etc. It would be a bonus if the plane and possible location could be identified! Thanks so much in advance, I'm just hoping to learn a bit more.

For a starter the plane is a Vickers Wellington.

Possibly on a Dutch island. Plenty of AA guns in a belt along the Frisian Islands, lowly lying and sandy

It's a shame that the serials aren't existent on the Wellington. It appears that it flew a few missions from the nose markings.

Thanks for the replies! Figuring it out piece by piece, I might try and find some crash logs online- even though there is a lack of numbers on the plane. Thanks for the help so far guys!

Looks like an early Wellington too, with the extensive glazing along the fuselage. A Mk1C, mebbe?

No signs of impact was it washed up on the beach.
Had the crew bailed out. Not sure what to look for as clues.

My guess is that the Germans had already started salvaging the Wellington looking at the missing port side engine and possibly tail section.
