I know this is post-war but I would very much like the help of someone who knows about signals' cap badges ... My dad designed a cap badge for a new Malay Signals unit in 1952 or 1953 whilst on National Service. He remembers that it was based around a swan and that it was taken on after his officer, a Major Galloway (RCS), forwarded the proposed design. When the federation was formed cap badges were changed so this one was only in use for a short period. We would now like to find one, or at the least an illustration of one. Dad often talks about it and I'd like to find something for him ... Any help very much appreciated. Best Skip
Hi Skip, This website might be of use to you. http://www.signalsbadges.co.uk/framepage.htm Perhaps an email to the owner of the site, that's if you have not seen it before. Good luck Steve
Thanks Steve, Hadn't seen that particular site but had seen some of the badges. Dad doesn't think they are based on his design but this website does show earlier versions so I'm sending them so he can see. Much appreciated. Will report back, Skip
Steve - just spoke to Dad. He thinks it's this one: http://www.signalsbadges.co.uk/framepage.htm so he's going to email the site owner who is asking for more information. Just need to find one of the badges now (left or right facing but preferably both)! Many thanks for posting that. Best, Skip
I'm currently at work but being a ex scaley I have a couple of RCS history books at home and one contains pics of all the variant corps cap badges. Drop me a PM as a reminder and I'll have a look through the book for you.
There's a picture of the cap badge in my book (it contains a bird) and a couple of pages of text. I'll try and find time to photograph them tomorrow for you.
Thanks to Andy, here is the background information to the Malayan Signals and their cap badge heraldry. Very much appreciate the replies and will post anything that comes of this. Best Skip
