Are you sure about the number? its in the RASC block (and that was only til 1942 so not right if the April 1945 is enlistment) , if he started with the Irish Guards it looks like a number has been missed as they are 2,714,001 to 2,730,000

(which could be why the MOD can't find his records)

    Hi,

    Welcome to the forum.

Are you sure about his army service number? It’s usually a 7 digit number.

If you look on Ancestry you ought to find the Palestine GSM roll and that may show his entitlement.

It is difficult to assess his WW2 campaign medal entitlement. Based on what you’ve said the minimum will be France & Germany Star and the 39/45 War Medal. If he served overseas 1944/45 until VE Day there may be the 39/45 Star and if he served over 3 years in UK prior to going on active service there may be an entitlement to the Defence Medal.

Have you written to RHQ IG? While they sent service records to MOD they may have retained other records - hopefully their enlistment & discharge register books - from which they may be able to provide some details of his service.

    Steve
