    Hi all,

I'm new to this site and found it after looking into my grandfather Viv's records for my mum. Howell Vivian Rees served in the South Wales Borderers (as per his marriage certificate in 1943). He died when my mum was young, after the war, and all she knew was that he was wounded in his arm during the war. He never talked about it (as was often the case) and no one alive is able to tell us more about his time in the army.

I managed to use his military number (4080115) to search records on geaneology sites and saw that he was with the 9th DLI when he was injured on the 17th Sept 1944. I saw from the 10th DLI war diary that some SWB / Monmouthshire regiment forced joined in 1944 and that when the 10th DLI were disbanded, some forces moved to 9th DLI which was where Viv was when he was injured. Whilst I wait for the records I've ordered to be sent (could take months I've been told) I was wondering if anyone had copies of the war diaries for 9th DLI from August 26th to 18th September 1944? I noticed that Drew kindly added some which he had for the 9th - 10th September 1944 here: New to this... Need some help !

Can anyone help or give any advice on how to track these down? I live in South Wales and don't want to make the trek down to Kew until I have his records back to I can make the most of the time I need to spend there researching!

Thank you in advance to any who can help! Rachel

The Durham Light Infantry (DLI) unusually has its own Tag, with 155 threads linked: Durham Light Infantry

On a very quick scan at least twenty threads title contains 9 / 9th DLI, so plenty to look at and most threads title do not specify which battalion the subject refers to.

To access the Tag system go to Forums and scroll down to formations, the DLI is shown there and select it. The list of threads will then appear.
