Morning all. Please excuse what are probably daft questions - my User Name says it all!

I'm tracing my father's time in WW2, mostly in North Africa with a Light Anti Aircraft unit and have been to the MOD and seen various War Diaries at Woolwich.

I just got a copy of his Tracer Card. The problem is I don't understand some of the terms or structure of dates.

What does T.O.S. X (IV) mean?

    What does X(1) mean?

    What does MEF mean?

Many dates have a further reference in brackets such as (264/X/43) (90/XMEF/43) etc - are these references to other records or...?

Also, I was aware he was in hospital at some point although not why. The card says X List 4 HOSP 14/4/43 (194/X43) - any pointers as to how I could find out where/why?

Can someone please take pity on a rank amateur...

    Thanks.

I think MEF stood for Middle East Forces.

    Thank you both

Any thoughts on the bracketed items e.g. (194/X/43)?

    HI

"Any thoughts on the bracketed items e.g. (194/X/43)?" I think they are army orders - the last bit is the year. They would be publications with each order listed in them. No idea how to access them, if they are still around.
Do you have his service records, they may go into more details?

    regards

    Robert
