Hi Gill, yes I'd found that link and was posted in item #28 above. Please read this thread right from post one or you could find you're doing work others have already found.

I didn't and I did work on the Morison guy, but the folks in France were already in touch with this family.

Ellen Holland is the mothers name provided by details found via CWGC.

Ha ha, we've all done it. Don't worry about it, just trying to save you some time. And it never hurts somebody verifying work already done, they sometimes turn up something that was overlooked first time round that ends up unlocking the whole mystery.

Nice one Guy, I'd also overlooked the months of birth. So we are on the hunt, for Miss Hunts marriage. Too many cooks don't always spoil the broth.

I think Ernest had only been engaged a couple of months before he was killed. I find her married in the 50s. Can see no children or marriage to Ernest. Dead end I think.

I don't think Ernest had any siblings, unless they were born elsewhere. Probably need to look at aunts and uncles now.

That's more containable than the list thrown up by GRO, there were loads of births with mothers maiden name Hunt. My geography is awful and Ernest Johns was the only birth that came up when I refined it to the district of Birmingham. It's astounding the difference in information between both websites.

    TD,
Handsworth parish was transferred from Staffordshire to Warwickshire, and became part of Birmingham, in 1911

Two possible marriages for Vera and I've a list of children from the first marriage I've looked into. I'll put the kids name on the private discussion tomorrow. I'm bushed.

    Good night folks.

Do you think that this might be them?
    Marriage

    Ernest Holland

25 Dec 1910 • St. James, Handsworth, Stafford, England

    Nellie Hunt

I know the name is Nellie... but it's not a great leap for her husband to call her Ellen and this became her 'known' name.

    Gill

PS ooops... sorry...this has already come up! Duh!

Hi Gill, Nellie & Ellen are commonly interchangeable, as I found out via a great aunt. Sure doesn't help when you're trying to research them.

I've sent a Facebook message hopefully to Vera's son. Fingers crossed Vera was/is indeed Ernest's sister. But if he discounts the connection at least we will know we are pursuing the wrong tree.

Ernest is really proving elusive. Would be such a shame not to crack it having found all the other families.

It's amazing to have got all of this... a brilliant team effort.

Last year my husband and I went to Blije, Friesland, Holland to the unveiling of a panel dedicated to dad's plane a Short Stirling MG - J that was shot down in June 1942. It was an amazing occasion and I'd done a lot of research to contact crew members' families... so I was doubly proud of myself. I put it on my blog...Part II of our incredible journey to Friesland

    Hi again!

    Just heard from Andre Laroze...

"I have not been contacted by any relatives of Sgt Holland, sgt Hutchinson (I know you sent a mil to Mark about him), sgt Wilkinson (I was just mailed that he attended Qeen Elizabeth Grammar School (Penrith); Neil Clennell (a nephew of Sgt Clennell who crashed his Typhoon in St Sever) contacted the school a few days ago in order to get some details but so far we have not got anything. So you see I am waiting for a mail from the relatives of these 3 airmen (Holland, Hutchinson, Wilkinson) without mentionning Lt Rudolf Marko (USAF) who also died in St Sever on Aug.1st 1944 but we will try to contact his relatives in America later. At the moment we atre concentrating on the British pilots.

I have just got a mail from our town hall asking me to contact a M.K.J. Williams who read the article in the Daily Telegraph. I do not know whether he is a relative of a pilot. I am going to send him my e-mail so that I may tell you the result of this contact.

Concerning Warrant Officer Rawlings you know tha tI got a mail from one of his grandsons last Sunday. I gave him the date of the ceremony. Now I am waiting to hear from him again of course."

And hard on the heels of that mail:

"Hi Gill. I have just received a Mail from Ann Hutchinson a niece of sgt Hutchinson. Super. André"

So to recap: Sgts Ernest John Holland and Walter Hugh Wilkinson are the names that are still up in the air, it seems.

Re Rawlings - Peter Syner is married to Carol A Rawlings - daughter of Kenneth, the only survivor
