Carlisle was in reserve in 1937, could it still be manned?

  4. I suppose that even ships in reserve would need at least a skeleton crew for minimum maintenance and guard duties. The writing certainly looks like 'Carlisle' to me

I would have to agree with 'Carlisle'

    PTI & LTT

    PTI - Physical Training Instructor
    ? Torpedo Instructor

    LTT - ? Torpedo Technician
    ? Torpedo Trainer

Would suggest you start a conversation with member Hugh McLean - he will probably know and will be so obvious we will all cringe

    TD

    To add:
    LTT - L perhaps is Leading ................

These abbreviations may be quite difficult to find.

It has nothing to do with the rank of the seaman or his sub spec that is in the next column of his record.

It is HMS TAMAR PT.1 - I have seen this on service records in the past also PT.2 - these are, I would suggest, sub units of the main base but I don't know exactly what they stand for. DRAKE LTT - no idea.

    Regards
    Hugh
